Lee W. Thorne, DVM & Cashew

Veterinarian, Co-Founder

Dr. Lee Thorne is a native Santa Rosan. Upon graduating from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1973, he returned to Santa Rosa to begin practicing. In 1990, he and his wife Annie opened Alderbrook Pet Hospital. Dr. Thorne provides medical and surgical care to small animals and birds.

Away from the hospital, he enjoys family time with Annie, their adult children, grandchildren and pets, Jackson (Chihuahua mix) and Cashew (Tortie). Of course when their four kids were growing up, the Thorne family included 2-3 dogs, several cats and birds (African grey, cockatiel, lovebird & parakeets), rats AND a full rabbitry for the kids’ 4-H rabbit projects.

Melissa Hart, DVM

Veterinarian, Partner

Dr. Hart joined Arroyo VH Corp in 2017. She co-owns and practices medicine at Arroyo Veterinary Hospital of Sonoma and Alderbrook Pet Hospital. Before moving to Northern California in 2012 she lived in upstate New York where she practice full-time for two years as an associate veterinarian at a busy multi doctor Aaha accredited small animal practice and part time at a local emergency clinic. In addition she volunteered weekly at the CNYSPCA to perform spays and neuters and to provide wellness care for shelter animals. Dr. Hart graduated from university of Minnesota college of veterinary medicine in 2010. She is highly skilled in diagnostics, emergency medicine and surgery. She resides in Santa Rosa with her husband Michael and two sons Quincy and Emmett. Her four-legged family includes her canine kid Emmy and several feline kids.

Keith Farquhar

Veterinarian

Dr. Farquhar was born and raised in Montana and has been living in the north Bay area since 2009. He joins Alderbrook Pet Hospital after 4 years with the San Francisco SPCA. He studied sociology and political science at Montana State University, and earned his DVM degree from Colorado State University in 2002. Dr. Farquhar has special interest in surgery, pain management and emergency medicine but enjoys all aspects of companion animal care. He lives in Petaluma with two orange cats (Teton and Glacier) and a scruffy terrier (Walter) that all came to him through the SPCA. In his off-time Dr. Farquhar enjoys trips to the coast, learning photography, reading and keeping Walter entertained.

Monica Ortiz, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Ortiz graduated in 2011 from St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. She then completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship for one year at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey. After working in Massachusetts for five years, she was eager to come back home to California. She resides in Petaluma with her family, including her two dogs, two cats and two fish. Dr. Ortiz’s professional interests include the human animal bond, client education, preventative care and nutrition.

Monica Ortiz, DVM

Veterinarian

Jennifer Sutliff & Sapphire

Practice Manager

A Santa Rosa native, Genn began working with us as a veterinary receptionist in April 2000. She quickly showed interest in supporting Dr. Thorne, becoming one of our key Veterinary Assistants. She attended SRJC, and local continuing education, enhancing her veterinary skills and knowledge. After Genn and her husband Chris welcomed the arrival of their son Dominik in 2006, she took a 5-year hiatus, with daughter Danika arriving in 2008. Genn returned in September 2012, resuming her duties and eventually becoming our Practice Manager (and Team Leader!). Genn’s menagerie at home (the Sutliff Zoo) includes 2 dogs (Maverick and Leo), 2 cats (Thunder & Tip), 3 macaw parrots (Sapphire, AJ & Angus), a cockatiel (Mr Pheebs), a bearded dragon (Mushizi), a bunny (Smokey Bun Buns) and an aquatic turtle (Bubbles). Genn is holding her baby,Sapphire, who she handpicked from a clutch of blue & gold macaws in 2000. Sapphire’s favorite treat is banana chips.

Abrina Wilder, RVT & Toothless

Registered Veterninary Tech

Abrina started working with us in the summer of 2011.  Originally going to the Santa Rosa Junior College to transfer as a genetics major, she learned about the availability of the Veterinary Technician Program.  This rekindled her dream of helping animals!  She has spent weekends volunteering at a local wildlife rescue helping care for injured and orphaned wildlife.  Abrina is an equine lover as well.

Abrina is pictured with Toothless, named after her favorite dragon. Toothless was rescued in January of 2012 and enjoys chasing laser pointers, and stealing treats and catnip when no one is looking.

Paige Hansen, RVT & Piccolo

Registered Veterinary Tech

A native Santa Rosan, Paige attended Santa Rosa High School where she participated in FFA.  She joined our team in early 2012, and has recently become a Registered Veterinary Technician.  Both fostered by her, Paige enjoys a special bond with her two tuxedo kitties, Piccolo & Boyd (attempts to get both to look at the camera were unsuccessful – next time Boyd!).  The family also includes Hank, a handsome McNab.  In her spare time, Paige is a regular “cat cuddler” for Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County.

Client Service Representative

Alex has lived in Rohnert Park since 2000.  Her prior experience includes volunteering at the Rohnert Park Animal Shelter for 3 years, plus an internship at a veterinary hospital.  Alex is a huge animal lover, with a menagerie that includes beagle mix Misty, her crazy orange tabby Owen, and her “foster fail” kitty, Princess.  Yes, sometimes we cannot give them up!  She loves spending time with her family and pets.

Customer Service Representative

A West county native, Edwina is an animal lover for life.  When not at work helping our clients manage their pet’s health, she spends all her free time with her 2 children, Dean & Samara, and their large menagerie.  Family members include Olde English Bulldogge Otis; 2 cats Jade & Cheetoh; 1 Sulcata tortoise Brie; 1 Chameleon Petunia; 1 Rose Hair Tarantula Mozzarella & 5 chickens, Sunshine, Dino, Stormy, Jelly & Brad.

Nora Fitch

Veterinary Assistant

Nora is a Santa Rosa native that joined our team in August 2015 as a kennel attendant. She shared her passion for animals, their human companions and her joy for learing veterinary medicine while working and attending SRJC in the Vet Tech program. She took a short hiatis and returned in August of 2017 as one of our current Veterinary Assistants. She recently completed her SRJC program and will soon sit for the board to become a licensed RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician).

Nora has been around animals all her life and currently has a lovely black and white cat named Layla.
